Medical Nutrition Therapy/Clinical

The interns learn competency skills from their preceptors. Competency is the ability to carry out a specific task within parameters of control. Please summarize your own image of what your professional role is AND what it should be. Teach the need-to-know task before the nice-to-know. The need-to-know tasks MUST be taught to the intern.

The interns’ rotations with you should be geared to helping them reach the competencies required. Projects and assignments that are given to interns may be individualized by each facility. Please encourage the interns to facilitate a discussion of the projects occurring in the facility that may also meet ACEND competencies. Provided are the competencies that the interns should attempt to meet at the rotation and a sample of assignments that may be used to reach these competencies.
