Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics

The Didactic Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (DP) at McNeese State University is located in The Harold and Pearl Dripps Department of Agriculture Sciences which is housed in the College of Science. Graduates of the DP receive a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration in Nutrition and Dietetics. Current enrollment in the DP is approximately 35 students.

Graduates of our DP have completed the Core Knowledge (KRD) for entry-level dietitian education programs as set out by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Upon completion of the program, graduates will receive a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree and a verification statement indicating they have completed ACEND knowledge requirements. With this, they are eligible to apply for a supervised practice experience, commonly called a dietetic internship.  Entry into an internship depends on work experience, GPA, personal statement, and letters of recommendation.  Successful completion of the supervised practice experience makes one eligible to take the national registration exam and become registered dietitians (RD).

Academic Advising:

Academic advising in the Nutrition and Dietetics Program is a continual process.  While planning and scheduling classes is ultimately the responsibility of the student, planned meetings with the academic advisor is required.  After the student and advisor have discussed their unique situation, class selection becomes easy.  These meetings, occurring at least once each semester, provide "excellence with a personal touch" to each student.
